Robert H. Baloh, MD, PhD is the Director of Neuromuscular Medicine in the Department of Neurology, and a member of the Brain Program at the Regenerative Medicine Institute at Cedars-Sinai. He is director of the multidisciplinary ALS program and board certified in neurology and neuromuscular medicine.
Dr. Baloh has conducted numerous research studies related to neuromuscular disorders. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 articles in peer reviewed publications, and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous top tier journals.
In addition to being a member of the American Neurologic Association, the American Academy of Neurology, the Society for Neuroscience and the Peripheral Nerve Society, Dr. Baloh has served as topic chair and abstract reviewer at a number of conferences. A well sought after speaker, Dr. Baloh has lectured nationally and internationally on various subjects relating to neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Dr. Baloh earned his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude at Brown University, where he was a member of the Sigma Xi Science Honor Society. He went on to earn his doctorate in neuroscience and medical degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He went on to complete an internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and a residency in neurology at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Baloh then completed a fellowship in neuromuscular diseases at Washington University.
