Abi Muthukumaran, MD is Associate Director of the Neurophysiology Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai.
Dr. Muthukumaran's clinical and research interests include new treatments for epilepsy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She is developing a comprehensive ALS program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and will be participating in ALS clinical trials. She has expertise in reading electroencephalograms (EEG) and performing electromyograms (EMG).
Dr. Muthukumaran is a board-certified neurologist who is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Indian Neurological Association and American Medical Association. She received the 2004 Epilepsy Top Scholar award from the American Epilepsy Society. In addition to her clinical work, she is very interested in teaching and is an experienced speaker, lecturing to internal medicine, neurology and psychiatry residents. She also has presented several posters at the American Stroke Association and has written articles on stroke in such peer-reviewed publications as Cerebrovascular Disease.
Dr. Muthukumaran earned her medical degree from Chennai Medical College in India. She completed a neurology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She fulfilled her clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and UCLA.
