Research Focus

Treatment and prevention of breast cancer;using molecular profiling of breast, ovarian and colorectal cancers to determine personalized treatment strategies with targeted therapies; Clinical trials with genetically-targeted therapies such as PARP inhibitors against cancers with DNA repair defects, such as BRCA-mutated cancers; breast cancer risk reduction based on personalized risk assessment (genetics, hormonal and exposure history, diagnostic testing, etc) and appropriate risk reducing interventions.

Research Contributions

Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials with targeted therapies in breast cancer; Principal Investigator at CSMC for first phase II clinical trials with genetically-targeted therapy in BRCA-mutated breast and ovarian cancers; first patient treated world wide at CSMC; initial strikingly positive results leading to further expansion of research into broader patient populations in international trials.

Current investigations include:

Translational Clinical Trials with targeted therapies; therapies targeting DNA repair defects in BRCA-mutated tumors regardless of organ of origin; neoadjuvant chemotherapy in triple negative breast cancer; therapies targeting tumor-dependent molecular pathways in patient-specific manner; development of breast cancer molecular profiling panel reflecting discrete biological subsets
