Pre-Healthcare Program

The Pre-Healthcare Volunteer Program is for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students who are applying to medical school and planning on becoming physicians. The program gives volunteers the opportunity to participate in direct observation of physician-mentors at Cedars-Sinai during a 9- or 10-week rotation. Rotations are offered 3 times per year: fall, spring and summer. Priority will be given to applicants who haven't already shadowed a physician.

  • 18 years or older
  • Completion of at least one semester of college
  • GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Submit application
  • General volunteer orientation
  • Receive an initial and annual health evaluation
  • Purchase a $30 volunteer smock/jacket

All applicants will be called to complete an initial screening over the phone. Applicants who meet the GPA and availability requirements will be sent a supplemental application. Interview applicants will be selected after all supplemental paperwork is reviewed. Those who are selected to participate in the program will be notified two weeks prior to the start of the rotation. Applicants who are not selected will be offered other volunteer options in a clinical area in the medical center

  • Attend mandatory weekly meetings on Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m.
  • Schedule shadowing shifts with physician-mentor based on individual schedules
  • Weekly submission of e-journal providing a narrative of observations

We are currently at capacity for the summer and fall 2018 rotations. Applications for the spring 2019 rotation will open on November 1, 2018. Information on summer 2019 will be posted in March 2019.
