If you have a family history of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis or stroke, your risk of developing that disease may be increased. If you have a personal history of one of these diseases, your family members may be at increased risk.
The GenRISK Adult Genetics Program specializes in the identification of genetic risk factors for common diseases of adulthood. Board-certified clinical geneticists and board-certified genetic counselors will assess your risk for a particular disease by reviewing your personal and family history and, if indicated, by ordering genetic tests. They can then outline a plan to help you and your doctors effectively manage your health risks and prevent disease.
The GenRISK Adult Genetics Program was established in 1986 as part of the Division of Medical Genetics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Since that time, we have been committed to providing comprehensive genetic risk assessment for a variety of common adult onset diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Our services include:
- Interpretation of your family history
- Coordination of appropriate genetic testing
- Interpretation of genetic test results
- Genetics education
- Counseling and emotional support
- Medical management recommendations
- Identification of research opportunities
The GenRISK team will work closely with your physicians, providing them with detailed summaries of our risk assessment and recommendations for risk reduction and disease prevention based on your family history and genetic test results.
