Specialized Imaging Technologists

The S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center has almost 40 Board of Radiology certified, subspecialized radiologists, cardiologists and nuclear medicine specialists, 20 physicians in fellowship and residency programs, and 500 support staff of certified, specialized technologists, nurses and administrative assistants. 

Our technologists have won awards for their expertise and dedication. David Baires, an interventional radiology technologist, received the prestigious 2012 Award of Excellence from the Association of Vascular and Interventional Radiographers (AVIR). The Award is voted on by peers and recognizes outstanding work in IR and commitment to his local community and profession.

X-Ray Technologists

Caring, courteous and professional, our radiologic technologists have graduated from either a four-year college or a two-year hospital program. All have passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national registry examination and are licensed by the California Department of Health. To stay up to date with the latest advances in radiology, our technologists complete mandatory ARRT continuing education requirements, as well as learning from daily interaction with our diagnostic radiologists.

CT Technologists

Our Computer Tomography (CT) scan technologists pass a specialty exam in Computerized Axial Tomography, which tests competency in areas such as cross-sectional anatomy, imaging procedures/protocols, pathology, physics, and patient care.



MRI Technologists

Our Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) specialists hold California Department of Health Radiologic Technologist licenses and at least a Bachelors Degree. Trained in customer service, they realize that patient care starts with a smile.  


Ultrasound and Vascular Ultrasound Technologists

Our ultrasound technologists are a highly trained and experienced team of professionals who specialize in OB/GYN, abdominal, small parts (scrotal, thyroid), and vascular imaging. The use state-of-the-art 3D and 4D ultrasound units. Our technologists are extremely sensitive to the personal comfort of our patients, before, during and after their exam. Each Ultrasound Technologist is registered with the American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), an independent, nonprofit organization that administers examinations and awards credentials in the areas of diagnostic medical sonography, diagnostic cardiac sonography, vascular interpretation, and vascular technology. The ARDMS is the globally recognized standard of excellence in sonography. Our Ultrasound Technologists also complete 30 continuing medical education credits every three years.


Nuclear Medicine Technologists

Our nuclear medicine technologists prepare, measure and administer radioactive isotopes for diagnostic exams and therapeutic studies. Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, our nuclear medicine technologists are also certified by the state of California. Many of our nuclear medicine technologists have additional training and hold certifications in PET, CT, and Bone Densitometry.
