B: While Takayasu’s arteritis characteristically involves the thoracic aorta and its branches, abdominal aortic branches may also be involved – and in fact may be the ONLY vessels involved.

Takayasu’s Classification

Type 1: Classic, involving only the great vessels
    Type 2: Thoracic aorta +/- great vessels
    Type 3: Descending thoracic and abdominal aorta +/- renal arteries
    Type 4: Abdominal aorta +/- renal arteries
    Type 5: Pan-aortic
