- Prenatal Diagnostics
Cedars-Sinai maternal-fetal medicine physicians are among the nation’s leaders specializing in testing for a wide range of genetic, medical and obstetrical disorders, using the latest technology. Maternal-fetal health expert John Williams III, MD, is a pioneer in the field of chorionic villus sampling prenatal testing, which can detect birth defects, genetic diseases and other problems during pregnancy. - High-Risk Pregnancies, Complex Medical Conditions
Cedars-Sinai’s maternal-fetal medicine specialists have deep expertise caring for high-risk pregnancies and complicated cases. Women with diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammatory bowel disease and lupus are managed by our specialists in partnership with each woman’s obstetrician. Obstetricians and hospitals from around the region often consult with us on high-risk pregnancies and transfer patients to Cedars-Sinai when needed for specialized care.
- Fertility and Reproductive Medicine
The Cedars-Sinai Fertility and Reproductive Medicine Center provides comprehensive care for women who are trying to conceive and those with hormonal disorders. The center offers complete diagnostic, treatment and management services for patients with the full range of fertility and reproductive health concerns.
- Childbirth and Parenting Education
Labor and Delivery nurses partner with obstetricians and faculty to create childbirth education courses to make the experience as informative and helpful as possible for women and their families. - Birth Plans

- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Our world-class Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, part of the Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Children’s Health Center, offers comprehensive neonatal diagnostic and treatment facilities for critically ill newborns. The NICU, one of the largest in Southern California, treats about 900 infants per year and supports parents through several groundbreaking programs. BabyTime allows mothers to visit their babies virtually in the NICU using iPads and secure Internet connections. The New Beginnings program offers emotional, educational and some financial support to help ease families through an often frightening and lonely experience.
- Couplet Care
Our care teams support women as they bond with their newborns and facilitate early transition care to home, including help if new mothers are overwhelmed. Cedars-Sinai offers postpartum depression screening and referrals for treatment.
- Breastfeeding: Lactation Support Team
Our certified lactation specialists work with new mothers to help provide the best nutrition for their newborns (breast feeding or bottle feeding). Our Lactation Center offers a wide selection of breastfeeding products and serves as a resource to mothers once they are home.
- Cord Blood Storage or Donation
Cedars-Sinai is a leader in offering families a comprehensive range of options for banking, storing or donating umbilical cord blood. We partner with CORD:USE, a leading cord blood bank, to make donated blood available for patients needing transplants, for a family’s exclusive use, or to be safely discarded.
