Addiction Psychiatry Program

The Addiction Psychiatry Consultation Program provides evidence-based, compassionate care for persons with substance use disorders and related problems. Our clinical programs bring together the best available assessment tools and treatments, ranging from psychotherapy to medication.

Our experts lead research to understand and discover treatments for substance use disorders. We also offer programs to train the next generation of addiction specialists, with research fellowships and training for medical students.

We work closely with community providers and programs to deliver a continuum of addiction treatment services. Cedars-Sinai also has a thriving community outreach program, including TEEN LINE and the Psychological Trauma Center.

Our Expert Team

Under the leadership of Itai Danovitch, MD, our expert team treats a wide range of conditions associated with addiction, including mental health disorders, chronic pain, and other medical problems.

Our Treatment Philosophy

Addiction describes a habitual behavior characterized by loss of control, compulsivity, and inability to stop despite harmful consequences. Examples include addiction to alcohol, tobacco, opioids, cannabis, stimulants, and certain prescription medications.

Addiction is caused by an interplay of biology, social and developmental factors, and psychological characteristics. Recovery often requires first dealing with the substance use, and then addressing the issues underlying it. Comprehensive treatment works. Successful recovery requires sustained attention to the biological, psychological, social and spiritual contributors to addiction.
