The Division of Pediatric Surgery provides the full range of general surgical services to children from premature newborns to late adolescents. The Division is proud to be part of the Cedars-Sinai's Department of Surgery, providing leading-edge surgical care to the community, region and beyond. Division members actively conduct clinical and basic science research and are involved at the national and international level in innovation and standards development.
Cedars-Sinai has been a leader in pediatric surgery for over 40 years. Early on, Steven Gans, MD was one of the pediatric surgeons to create the leading organization, the American Pediatric Surgical Association, and was both the co-creator and editor of the lead specialty journal, the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Gans was one of the first pediatric surgeons to employ minimal access techniques, such as thoracoscopy and laparoscopy. The Division grew significantly under the subsequent care of Drs. Jordan Weitzman and Columbus McCalpin. Recently, David Bliss, MD assumed the directorship of the Division of Pediatric Surgery and looks to expand upon the strengths of the institution and personnel to continue to deliver the highest quality of care to our smallest patients.
