Urologic Male Anatomy

For men and women alike, the urinary tract is made up of the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, bladder and urethra.

The primary difference between men and women are the reproductive organs that are located near the organs of the urinary system.

The animation below highlights the organs of the urinary tract and their relationship to the reproductive organs in a man's body.

The Prostate Gland

The prostate gland is an organ that men have and women don't. Located just below the bladder, the prostate gland completely surrounds the urethra. As a man gets older, his prostate gland can become enlarged. Sometimes a man develops prostate cancer, which also enlarges the prostate gland. This can put pressure on the bladder and make a man feel the need to go to the bathroom often.
