Research Focus

Identification of genetic variants that increase susceptibility to and affect the natutral history of both ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease. Interested in using both clinical factors and biomarkers to predict outcomes and response to therapies in UC and Crohn's disease.

Research Contributions

Co-author on the first genome-wide association scan in IBD and subsequently co-authored a number of papers identifying other susceptibility genes. Leader in developing risk models for IBD using combinations of genetic, serological and clinical markers.

Current investigations include:

Identification of further susceptibility genes for IBD
Phenotype/genotype correlations in IBD
Functional effect of IBD susceptibility genes
