Research Focus

Health Services Research, Obstetrical Health Care Resource Utilization, Cesarean Section Rates, Appropriateness of Use, Maternal Quality Care, Development and Implementation of OB/GYN Practice Guidelines, Obstetrical Electronic Medical Record, OB/GYN Performance Improvement.

Research Contributions

Developed algorithms for determining indications for cesarean delivery, cesarean after labor, and elective (no labor) cesarean delivery using hospital administrative data, demonstrating wide variation in cesarean rate by hospital. Developed framework and proposed indicators for monitoring quality of care during pregnancy and childbirth.

Current investigations include:

Developing maternal quality of care indicators. Identifying levels of care for obstetric services. Safety and quality on Labor and Delivery. Tracking maternal mortality and morbidity.
