The Uro-Oncology Research Program has a strong emphasis on basic science and translational research in prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers. This research program is composed of a group of nationally and internationally recognized scientists in the field of cancer biology including Leland Chung, Michael Freeman, Beatrice Knudsen, Hyung Kim, Haiyen Zhau, Neil Bhowmick, Edwin Posadas, Jayoung Kim, Dolores Di Vizio, Ruoxiang Wang, Wei Yang, and Wen-Chin Huang.
The program holds extramural funding and engages in research collaborations to advance knowledge and clinical translation.
Currently, the program is funded by a NCI Program Project on "Prostate Cancer Bone Metastasis: Biology and Targeting", and NIH R01, Department of Defense, and foundation research grants.
Collectively, strong inter- and intra-programmatic collaborations with the objectives of understanding the "cross-talk" between the tumor and its microenvironment, the development of new imaging, targeting, and biomarkers, and the acceleration of clinical translation of basic science discoveries from bench to bedside to improve the clinical outcome of patients with prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers.
The program faculty is also committed to the vital educational objectives of training graduate students, research scholars, clinical fellows, and exchange students.
