LTQ Orbitrap Fusion Lumos (Thermo Scientific)

Fusion Lumos is currently one of the most advanced mass spectrometers. It excels at most challenging applications, such as highly sensitive quantification of proteins and small molecules, multiplexed relative quantitation using isobaric tags (e.g., TMT and iTRAQ) and the analysis of lowly abundant post-translational modifications (e.g., phosphorylation, palmitoylation, acetylation, methylation and ubiquitination). Fusion Lumos is a tribrid mass spectrometer containing a quadrupole mass filter, a dual-pressure linear ion trap and an Orbitrap mass analyzer, whose combination provides maximal duty cycle owing to a high degree of parallelization of various instrument operations. It provides ultra-high resolving power of up to 500,000 full-width at half maximum, as well as acquisition rates of up to 20 Hz for both Orbitrap and linear ion trap MSn analyses. Moreover, Fusion Lumos offers three types of fragmentation methods, namely collision induced dissociation, higher energy collisional dissociation and electron transfer dissociation, whose combination provides detailed structural information of peptides, metabolites, lipids and glycans.
