The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are a complex group of disorders. The mission of Stephan Targan, MD, and the research laboratories in the F. Widjaja Foundation Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute are to approach the research of IBDs from all possible angles and to use translational research concepts to accelerate the rate at which findings at the research bench can be employed in patient care to benefit patients.
Research teams with expertise in genomics, immunology, molecular biology, stem cell biology and biochemistry work together to define new therapeutic targets with the potential to become new treatments and to study groups of patients with similar characteristics to identify biomarkers to facilitate diagnosis and the development of treatment plans tailored to individual patients — personalized medicine.
The Targan Laboratory is affiliated with the Cedars-Sinai F. Widjaja Foundation Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, the Department of Medicine and Precision Health.
