Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship

The Cedars-Sinai colorectal fellowship provides a unique opportunity to train at a world-class hospital, while providing exposure to a wide range of surgical techniques as well as a diverse range of pathology. The best part for me was that I had the flexibility and operative volume to tailor my training for my needs. In a rapidly evolving field, training with surgeons who are both innovators and great teachers is key!

The year I spent at Cedars-Sinai as the colon and rectal surgery fellow was by far the most significant period in my training. It helped me develop into the surgeon I am today. The fellowship challenged me in a way that simultaneously refined my surgical skills and clinical knowledge. At the end of my fellowship year, I felt much better prepared for my career than I had ever imagined.

When I was looking for a fellowship program, I wanted a place that would challenge me. The opportunity to be the only fellow working with over 10 attending physicians meant I got to cherry pick all the best techniques and make them my own. The most important aspect of the program, though, is that I have never had as much fun working as hard as I did. The attending physicians are all very enjoyable to work with.

This fellowship was the most important and rewarding experience in my professional career. I appreciated the faculty's generosity and willingness to teach me colorectal surgery and for the abundant technical, surgical and management skills. You will work your butt off, but there will be plenty of support. Having graduated from the Cedars-Sinai colorectal fellowship, I felt confidently prepared going into the workforce. I am truly grateful to all of the faculty, especially Phil Fleshner, the head of the program and an exceptional mentor, whom I can call anytime day or night for advice.
