Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship
Cedars-Sinai's Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship is a one-year, comprehensive clinical and research program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. During the fellowship, competent general surgeons become especially well versed in the diagnosis and management of diseases and disorders of the colon, rectum and anus. Program Director Phillip Fleshner, MD, and his associates — all of whom are board-certified colorectal surgeons actively involved in surgical education and research — have the primary teaching responsibilities. The program prepares fellows to apply for and successfully obtain certification from the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Training takes place at world-renowned Cedars-Sinai, the largest nonprofit hospital in the western United States.
Training & Curriculum
Fellows gain experience in all facets of colon and rectal surgery, as well as specialized training in current therapeutic modalities.
Application Information
One fellow is chosen each year for the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship. Qualified applicants must have completed a general surgery residency program at an accredited facility. To apply to the program, please contact the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Applications for each academic year, which begins July 1, should be completed by August of the previous year. If the fellow is considered for an appointment to this competitive program, he or she will be asked to come to Los Angeles for an interview with the program director and faculty members. Interviews are conducted during September and October.
We are proud to name so many esteemed physicians and highly regarded researchers, all representing nearly every major medical discipline, as members of the Colon and Rectal Surgery training program leadership and faculty.
Current and past fellows help shape the future of colon rectal surgery through their commitment to patient care and research.
