Perioperative Services Nursing Internships

Operating Room Training Program

Cedars-Sinai's Perioperative Services specializes in a wide range of surgical cases ranging from transplant to outpatient surgery. The training programs provide a combination of clinical experience, didactic teaching and hands-on skills in our Women’s Guild Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Skills.

The program consists of clinical sessions, OR skills and didactic sessions (using Lippincott and Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Competency and Standards of Practice modules).

PACU Training Program

Cedars-Sinai's Perioperative Services specializes in a wide range of surgical cases ranging from transplant to outpatient surgery. The PACU Training Program prepares nurses to care for a wide range of complex surgical patients in our blended units.

16 weeks (4 weeks preoperative, 8 weeks in PACU of hire, 4 weeks rotating in other PACUs)

1-2 days during first 3 weeks

The program consists of clinical rotations, simulations, lectures and skills sessions (using Lippincott and American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) Competency and Standards of Practice modules).


Emergency Department Nurse Internship

The Ruth and Harry Roman Emergency Department at Cedars-Sinai provides emergency care to a diverse community of adult and pediatric patients. Cedars-Sinai is a Level I trauma center and an ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and Stroke Receiving Center. Nurses receive training in emergency, triage and trauma care based off the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Scope and Standards of Practice.

Critical Care Nurse Internship

Cedars-Sinai's Critical Care Division cares for some of the most critically ill patients in the areas specializing in:

  • Medical and surgical cardiac ICU
  • Neuro ICU
  • Respiratory and medical ICU
  • Trauma and surgical/transplant ICU

3 days (1 session per week for the first 3 weeks)

The course blends simulation, skills, discussion, and lecture sessions with case studies (using American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Competency and Standards of Practice modules).


Labor and Delivery Nurse Internship

Nearly 7,000 women experience low- and high-risk births at Cedars-Sinai every year. We care for laboring patients in our newly redesigned laboring rooms or operating rooms, and high-risk perinatal patients in our Maternal-Fetal Care Unit.

The first week of the program is didactic. After that, there are six 8-hour didactic sessions every other week for 12 weeks.

The course is a blend of online content through the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), unit-based skills training, interactive didactic sessions and hands-on clinical training in five different practice areas.
