Digestive Diseases Research Center
This next-level research center leverages Cedars-Sinai's investigative talent and state-of-the-art facilities, bringing together renowned scientists and junior researchers to find multidisciplinary solutions to complex challenges in diseases of the digestive system and liver.
Research Themes
The Cedars-Sinai Digestive Diseases Research Center's (CSDDRC) primary focus is on researching inflammation as it informs and correlates to a range of digestive disorders, such as those that affect the gut microbiome, gastrointestinal and liver metabolism, and gastrointestinal and liver injury.
Gut Microbiome
Led by Dr. David Underhill, investigators explore how the gut microbiome affects specific pathways of inflammatory disease.
Gastrointestinal and Liver Metabolism
Dr. Mark Goodarzi heads research on how metabolic disturbances of the digestive system and microbiome promote inflammation.
Gastrointestinal and Liver Injury
Guided by Dr. Stephan Targan, researchers study the mechanisms and interactions involved in organ injury and inflammation.
The CSDDRC's cores are the Administrative Core (Core A), the Advanced In Vitro Model Systems and Imaging Core (Core B), the Gnotobiotics and Gut Microbiome Core (Core C), and the Translational and Clinical Resources Core (Core D).
Full and associate memberships are based on criteria such as research rank, but all members use our scientific cores.
Training & Education
The Pilot and Feasibility Program supports projects that evaluate testable concepts and expand the scope of digestive and liver disease research. Our Enrichment Program fosters collaboration between basic scientists and clinicians as well as career development.
Events
Monthly seminar series include one program that features leaders in the field and another that showcases the work of junior investigators. Focused interest groups in areas such as liver, pancreas and inflammatory bowel diseases regularly hold events of their own.
Publications
Read more about the groundbreaking research and discoveries published by physicians and scientists at the Digestive Diseases Research Center each year.
