Education and Training
Center faculty members are committed to providing AI education and training opportunities to the Cedars-Sinai community and beyond.
Workshops
Ryan Urbanowicz, PhD, leads introductory and advanced AI workshops for the Cedars-Sinai community. These are held annually. For example, the Introduction to Machine Learning workshop provides an overview of the basic concepts and language of machine learning with real data examples. Tiffani Bright, PhD, is developing a new workshop on AI ethics that covers issues related to the fairness and bias of machine-learning algorithms.
Software
Jason Moore, PhD, has developed an AI software package called Aliro-Ed, with teaching materials for accessing advanced machine-learning methods and analyses with the push of a button. This enables those without computer science training or expertise to learn about machine learning without mathematics or computer programming. This software is freely available and is designed to run on the inexpensive Raspberry Pi 400 computer that can be purchased for around $100.
National AI Campus
Xiuzhen Huang, PhD, leads a National AI Campus to engage high school, undergraduate and graduate students in AI education through training activities and participation in AI competitions. Several of the participating teams have won competitions such as the Dream Challenge. This activity is open to the Cedars-Sinai community.
