Franklin Rimell, MD, is a board-certified pediatric otolaryngologist at Cedars-Sinai with a heavy interest in translational otolaryngology. Specifically, his research endeavors have involved the development of devices to assist in clinical otolaryngology, starting with conceptual design followed by laboratory development and progressing into clinical use.
Currently, his research is focused on development and implementation of a medical device that will facilitate the placement of pediatric tympanostomy (ear) tubes in-office, moving this procedure out of the operating room to increase safety and reduce cost.
Previous research projects
- Designed and developed a novel palatal implant device for the treatment of primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea
- Designed and developed the first single-use delivery device for the placement of pediatric tympanostomy tubes in-office
