Meet Our Team

Sungyong You, PhD
Director

Sungyong You, PhD, has a strong background in computational biology and systems biology, with specific training in various omics data analyses. His efforts contributed a lot to the development of these resources: 1) unified data processing and analysis pipelines, 2) computational infrastructure by acquiring workstations and a cloud server used by my team, and 3) an in-house database containing a large collection of cancer data and molecular interaction information. Sungyong You also currently serves as the director of the Genitourinary Sciences Bioinformatics Unit in the Cedars-Sinai Surgery Department.

Ren Sun
Research Bioinformatician

Ren Sun joined the core at the end of April 2021 as a research bioinformatician. She has a MSc in pharmacology from the University of Toronto and has been working in cancer informatics since 2014. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, she did pipeline development and provided general bioinformatics support to experimentalists at the Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine of USC.

Richard Ainsworth, PhD
Research Bioinformatician

Richard Ainsworth, PhD, joined the cancer core in September 2021. He received his PhD in physics from University College London, where he developed and applied theoretical methodologies to calculate physical properties of biomedical phosphate-based glasses. In 2014 he joined the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and shifted focus to integrative systems biology. His research has included the mathematical modeling of gene-regulation networks using epigenetic and transcriptomic data in order to manipulate cell state in silico, and identifying driver transcription factors behind disease pathogenesis. His collaborative work, alongside experimental colleagues, has included the development of personalized treatment strategies in rheumatoid arthritis and the characterization of epigenetic reorganization in the frontal cortex of individuals with schizophrenia.
