Richard Ainsworth, PhD, joined the cancer core in September 2021. He received his PhD in physics from University College London, where he developed and applied theoretical methodologies to calculate physical properties of biomedical phosphate-based glasses. In 2014 he joined the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and shifted focus to integrative systems biology. His research has included the mathematical modeling of gene-regulation networks using epigenetic and transcriptomic data in order to manipulate cell state in silico, and identifying driver transcription factors behind disease pathogenesis. His collaborative work, alongside experimental colleagues, has included the development of personalized treatment strategies in rheumatoid arthritis and the characterization of epigenetic reorganization in the frontal cortex of individuals with schizophrenia.
