Curriculum Overview
The Certificate in Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) is a 10-week online program that blends self-paced online learning with live, facilitated discussion. Participants move through one module each week and then meet as a learning community for a 60-minute session with COE leaders across the country to apply concepts, share practice-based examples, and troubleshoot real-world challenges.
Across the curriculum, learners build core competencies in community building, knowledge exchange, and skill advancement—grounded in public health principles and cancer control. Modules emphasize practical skills: interpreting local cancer data, selecting and adapting evidence-based education and screening strategies, strengthening community and cancer center partnerships, and communicating for practice and policy change.
Each module uses the same structure: introductions and learning outcomes, activities and discussion prompts, low-stakes quizzes, and brief exit surveys that support continuous improvement. Live sessions are intentionally discussion-forward, helping participants connect ideas to their own catchment area and leave with tools they can use immediately.
