Benjamin Bakondi, PhD, is investigating stem cell and gene therapy treatments for retinal degenerative diseases.

Hui Xu, PhD
Postdoctoral Scientist

Hui Xu, PhD, attended the University of Utah for graduate school majoring in visual neuroscience. Xu developed an interest in understanding the mechanisms and therapy treatments of retinal degeneration in a few types of retinal degenerative diseases. In the Wang Laboratory, Xu is working on cell- and gene-based therapy treatments for retinal degenerative diseases.

Changqing Zhang, PhD
Postdoctoral Scientist

Changqing Zhang, PhD, earned her bachelor’s degree in biological science from Peking University, China, and her doctorate in endocrinology and animal biosciences from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Zhang joined the Wang Laboratory in December 2015 as postdoctoral scientist, and is working on immune reaction caused by cell transplantation treatment for retina degeneration.

Jingyan Yang, MD
Visiting Graduate Student

Jingyan Yang, MD, earned her master's degree from Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. She joined the Wang Lab in March 2019 as a visiting graduate student. She works in the Wang Lab performing tissue collection, cryostat sections, histology and data analysis.

Joshua Saylor
Research Assistant

Joshua Saylor earned his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University. He joined the Wang Lab in December 2015 as a research associate. Saylor participates in a California Institute for Regenerative Medicine-funded preclinical project where he is responsible for post-surgery injection, tissue collection, cryostat sections, histology and data analysis.

Alice Pieplow
Research Intern

Alice Pieplow earned her bachelor's degree in cell and molecular biological science from California State University, Long Beach. She is working in the Wang Lab on a project with insoluble noncollagenous proteins.
