Research Areas
Our research examines how preexisting senescent cells influence immune and inflammatory responses to infection. We combine geroscience, cell biology, immunological assays, animal models, digital pathology and machine learning to understand differences associated with age, chronic disease and sex.
Cellular Senescence and Immune Aging
We investigate how senescent cells and their senescence-associated secretory phenotype interact with the immune system and contribute to inflammaging and impaired resilience.
Senescence and Infection Outcomes
We study how preexisting senescent-cell burden may shape responses to pathogen-associated signals and increase morbidity after viral, bacterial and fungal infections, including sepsis-related illness.
Digital Pathology and Machine Learning
We are developing skills and workflows to quantify senescent cells by tissue compartment, identify imaging-based biomarkers and apply machine learning to tissue image analysis.
Sex Differences and Translational Geroscience
We explore sex-related differences in immune responses and use preclinical models, senolytic research and translational collaborations to inform strategies that promote healthy aging.
