Langhi Prata Lab
The Langhi Prata Lab investigates how cellular senescence, the accumulation of aged or damaged cells, changes immune responses and increases vulnerability to infection. Our interdisciplinary work brings together geroscience, immunology, sepsis research, digital pathology and machine learning to understand why older and chronically ill individuals experience worse outcomes after infections, especially sepsis, and to identify new strategies that support healthy aging.
Personal Statement
I want to understand how preexisting senescent cells connect aging and immunity to worsen sepsis and infectious disease outcomes.
Larissa G. P. Langhi Prata, PhD
Breakthrough Research
We study how senescent cells alter inflammatory and immune responses to pathogens, especially sepsis, combining animal models, immunological assays, digital pathology and machine learning.
