Musi Lab
The Musi Lab at Cedars-Sinai studies the pathophysiology and treatment of Type 2 diabetes alongside the fundamental biology of aging. We investigate insulin resistance, skeletal muscle metabolism, mitochondrial dysfunction and the cellular mechanisms that link aging to metabolic disease. By combining mechanistic studies with human clinical research, exercise interventions and geroscience approaches, we aim to develop therapies that improve metabolic health, physical function and healthspan.
Personal Statement
Our goal is to understand how the biology of aging contributes to insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes and functional decline, and to translate these discoveries into treatments. We combine studies of human metabolism, exercise and geroscience to identify interventions that extend healthspan.
Nicolas Musi Gómez, MD
Breakthrough Research
We study Type 2 diabetes and biological aging, uncovering mechanisms of insulin resistance and testing exercise and geroscience interventions to improve healthspan.
Funded Research
The Musi Lab contributes to NIH-funded investigations of Type 2 diabetes, exercise biology, cellular senescence, biological aging and interventions designed to improve health and function in older adults.
