Jiang and Liang Lab
The Jiang and Liang Laboratory focuses on uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms of lung aging and fibrosis, with a particular emphasis on alveolar stem cells in regulating injury repair, maladaptive remodeling and the progression of pulmonary fibrosis. By integrating advanced genomics, human primary cells, complex mouse model systems and translational models, the lab seeks to define how aging, metabolic stress and inflammatory cues converge to disrupt alveolar epithelial homeostasis and promote irreversible scarring. Building on these insights, the team is committed to therapeutic innovation, developing unique drug screening platforms and mechanistic assays to accelerate the discovery of strategies—restoration of alveolar stem cells—for patients with progressive lung disease.
The Jiang and Liang Laboratory is affiliated with the Pulmonary Division in the Department of Medicine and Women's Guild Lung Institute.
Personal Statement
Our lab investigates how aging reshapes the molecular and cellular machinery of the lung, particularly how age-related changes undermine alveolar stem cell renewal and epithelial repair. By defining the mechanisms that drive this loss of resilience, we aim to uncover new paths to restore alveolar stem cells in patients with progressive lung disease.

Personal Statement
We integrate human primary cells, 3D organoid culture systems, advanced genomics and rigorous translational models to identify novel targets for lung fibrosis. Our goal is to translate mechanistic insights into effective therapeutics that can meaningfully improve outcomes for patients with progressive pulmonary disease.
