Suda Lab
Masayoshi Suda, MD, investigates the fundamental biology of aging in collaboration with James Kirkland, MD, PhD, and Tamar Tchkonia, PhD, at the Center for Advanced Gerotherapeutics. The team investigates whether targeting fundamental mechanisms of aging can provide root-cause strategies to prevent, attenuate and treat age-associated diseases. His research focuses particularly on vascular cell senescence and the development of therapies targeting aging-related mechanisms in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
The Center for Advanced Gerotherapeutics at Cedars-Sinai plays a central role in the Translational Geroscience Network (TGN), a consortium of leading aging research centers across the United States. Within the TGN, the Center operates the Facility for Geroscience Analysis (FGA), an analytical laboratory that validates and measures cellular markers of fundamental aging processes in clinical trials of gerotherapeutics. Suda serves as co-director of the FGA and leads efforts to establish biomarkers of fundamental aging.
Personal Statement
Our group studies the biology of aging and develops therapies targeting senescent cells including senolytics. My research focuses on the heterogeneity of senescent cells across cell types and disease contexts, with the goal of advancing precision gerotherapeutics. With a background in cardiology, I am particularly interested in senescent endothelial cells in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. As a physician-scientist and co-director of FGA, I lead translational studies using clinical biospecimens to identify and validate biomarkers of biological aging and support their clinical translation.
