Olivia Bay earned her MS in biology from New York University. She previously studied gametogenesis genetics in Caenorhabditis elegans and she joined the Barrett Lab in February 2021. Her role in the Barrett Lab has focused on performing assays on mesenchymal cells obtained from patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells to better understand the formation of intestinal fibrosis.
Shachi Patel, MS
Research Associate I
Shachi Patel earned her master of science in biomedical engineering from University of Florida, Gainesville. She joined the Barrett Lab in April 2019. Patel maintains and directs induced pluripotent stem cells to form human intestinal organoids and also carries out assays to validate the lab’s disease-in-a-dish model of intestinal fibrosis.
Christian Wong Valencia earned his PhD in biomedical sciences from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and he joined the Barrett Lab in July 2021. His research work aims to study human intestinal strictures and to further develop our model of intestinal fibrosis using iPSC-derived human intestinal organoids.
