Training & Curriculum

The Body Imaging and Intervention Fellowship has a busy clinical service that includes rotations in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound (US). Teaching occurs using a variety of methods for a comprehensive training experience. We have a heavy neuroendocrine tumor patient population and a heavy volume of breast magnetic resonance (MR) cases. Breast biopsies, dynamic pelvis MRI and congenital cardiac MR are among the multimodality procedures integrating advanced imaging technologies. Fellows are engaged in all aspects of body imaging exams including protocols, monitoring of exams, exam interpretation and dictation.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The workload includes, but is not limited to hepatobiliary, genitourinary, oncologic and gynecologic imaging. More specialized examinations are also performed, including dynamic pelvic imaging, prostate MRI and cardiac imaging.

Computed Tomography

There is a high volume of CT and US-guided procedures. During these rotations, participate in microwave tumor ablation procedures, oncology cases, biopsies, drainages, thoracentesis/paracentesis, transplant imaging and complex image-guided and interventional procedures.

Ultrasound

The US workload consists of general abdominal, genitourinary, oncologic and transplant imaging. Interventional procedures include CT and US-guided biopsies and drainages of both deep and superficial structures and intra-operative US.

Departmental and interdepartmental conferences and occur regularly and teaching sessions occur daily. Fellows present a weekly multidisciplinary cancer center tumor board and attend conferences covering liver transplant, pediatric cardiology, thoracic and breast imaging. Fellows also participate in teaching residents, including reviewing special procedures during readouts, assisting residents with differential diagnosis during call and discussing cases with the resident on service. Research and elective opportunities are available, as well as opportunities for weekly moonlighting.
