Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship
Led by some of the nation’s best educators in health science, our programs are at the forefront of translational medicine and healthcare innovation.
Cedars-Sinai is pleased to offer a one-year Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.
The Cedars-Sinai Supportive Care Medicine program is a highly integrated and well-established palliative care program, serving a diverse population of patients with a variety of complex and advanced illnesses. Our board-certified physician faculty members come with a breadth of expertise from diverse specialty backgrounds, such as internal medicine, hospitalist medicine, pulmonary critical care, geriatrics, physiatry and neurology. Our skilled clinicians in social work, chaplaincy, pharmacy and nursing are deeply committed to the transdisciplinary care and education of future palliative care physicians.
Cedars-Sinai is one of the largest nonprofit academic medical centers in the U.S., with an expansive health system of community practices. The health system supports multiple specialty intensive care unit services (medical, surgical, neurocritical, cardiac, cardiothoracic) and houses the nation’s leading heart transplant program at the Smidt Heart Institute. Cedars-Sinai is also one of the largest providers of oncologic care in California. Fellows will have the opportunity to learn the role of integrated transdisciplinary palliative care services in a complex and technologically advanced environment.
Cedars-Sinai has long-standing relationships with local area hospitals and community hospice partners, ensuring an optimally diversified educational experience for fellows. Additionally, in partnership with one of these community hospices, the Cedars-Sinai Supportive Care Medicine team has developed a robust general inpatient level of hospice care.
Fellows will spend most of their clinical time on the inpatient consultation service at Cedars-Sinai and their remaining time on rotations in oncology, interventional pain, long-term care and adult and pediatric community hospices. Fellows will have four weeks of dedicated research time to develop and complete a scholarly or quality improvement project. The fellow continuity clinic is designed to provide experience in both palliative care and cancer survivorship and rehabilitation. The program also offers robust opportunities in electives.
Neuro-Palliative Care Fellowship Focus
Cedars-Sinai is excited to announce a new Fellowship Focus in Neuropalliative Care! The third of its kind in the United States, the Neuropalliative Care Fellowship Focus will accept one residency-trained neurologist annually to the Cedars-Sinai Palliative Care Fellowship. In addition to standard palliative fellowship training, neuropalliative fellows will attend a weekly neuropalliative continuity clinic, receive monthly neuropalliatve lectures, experience modified rotations to meet neuropalliative training needs (e.g. neuro-oncology), receive direct mentorship from internationally regarded neuropalliative faculty, and complete a Neuropalliative QI/research project. Upon completion of this program, fellows will be experts in the provision of palliative care to neurological patients, and will be prepared to join or start their own neuropalliative practice upon graduation.
