Training & Curriculum
Clinical Experience
Rotations are designed to expose the residents to graduated responsibilities in all the sub-specialties in Urology. Sub-specialty faculty are represented in Urologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Endourology, Female Urology, Pediatric Urology and Infertility/Men’s Health. There are three-month immersive rotations in Pediatric Urology and Female Urology. Residents are exposed to these subspecialties both surgically and in the ambulatory setting. There also is a resident clinic at which the resident is the primary physician for these patients.
Residents spend most of their clinical time at Cedars-Sinai, a leader in providing high-quality healthcare encompassing primary care, specialized medicine and research. They work not only with the core academic faculty but also draw upon a large group of clinical faculty who are in the private practice of Urology at the facility.
Research
Research is an important part of urology training. A fully developed research program is part of the Cedars-Sinai Urology Residency. The Urology Academic Practice has dedicated laboratory space and funded research in several areas. The urology laboratory affords residents ample opportunity to further develop their research skills by participating in ongoing research projects, which is especially important for residents who plan to seek academic positions. In addition, each resident is encouraged to submit abstracts and papers for presentation at scientific meetings. If the resident's study is accepted, financial support is provided to attend the American Urological Association's annual national meeting or other significant national specialty meetings.
Conferences
Residents participate in formal didactic sessions, which occur on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly basis and include the following:
- Grand rounds
- Clinical case conference
- Mortality and morbidity conference
- Campbell's Conference
- Journal Club
- Tumor board
