Patil Lab
The focus of the Patil Laboratory is on delivering imaging agents and therapeutic drugs across the blood-brain barrier to image and treat brain tumors and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Currently, the Patil Lab is working on boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT)—in particular, tumor-targeted delivery of Boron-10 (10B)-rich molecules for the treatment of high-grade glioma. The Patil Lab is also studying the effect of breathable particulate matter (PM) in ambient air on Alzheimer’s disease progression.
The Patil Laboratory is affiliated with the Neurosurgery Department and the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.
Personal Statement
I started my academic career with a junior research fellowship in
2000 at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India, after completing
my master’s in organic chemistry from Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada
(SRTM) University, Nanded, India. I received my doctorate degree (magna
cum laude) in chemistry and pharmacology from the Institute of Organic
Chemistry and Pharmacology, University of Regensburg, Germany. In
November 2006, I joined the drug delivery and nanomedicine group as a
postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Neurosurgery at
Cedars-Sinai. In 2011, I was promoted to a project scientist in the
Nanomedicine Research Center in the Department of Neurosurgery and am
currently serving as a faculty research scientist and assistant
professor. My research interests include the development of novel
strategies to deliver therapeutic molecules across the blood-brain
barrier for imaging and treatment of CNS disorders, including brain
tumors and Alzheimer’s disease. I am also studying the effect of
particulate matter in air pollution on Alzheimer’s disease."
